The Holy Matrimony…

The mystery of the holy matrimony is one of the seven sacraments of the Coptic Orthodox Church.
This is when the spirit forms a communion between the bride and the bridegroom.
“A man and a woman who are members of the Body of our Lord Jesus Christ, through the mystery of Holy Matrimony not only do they become ‘one flesh’, but their union is sealed by the Holy Spirit living in each of them”

While we have the most beautiful coptic churches, picking my home church as the location to get married was the easiest ‘wedding decision’ John and I made.

This was the church where I grew up, spent my adolescence and made lifelong friends. John had also spent countless hours serving there and it was where he had serviced right after our first date.

Our spiritual Father Mina Aziz was nothing but supportive and helped us overcome numerous hurdles during this trying time. He is currently serving and doing an amazing job carrying the late Archpriest Father Wissa’s golden dome legacy.

We also had several guests priests, Father Luke from St Mary & St Mercurius Belleville, NJ who carried me as an infant. Father Morcos from St Moses & Anba Abraam Coptic Orthodox Church, Piscataway, NJ (where John and I now attend) and we also received the blessings His Grace Bishop David. We are eternally grateful for all of their presence..

My wish for all coptic brides is to have the spiritual support, father figures and guidance to lead you to your ‘Holy Matrimony’, Lord only knows that logic was not going to get us there.
